Well that’s that, the edit is now locked and we’re starting to put together everything that is needed for the effects, sound and music. This edit is somewhat different to the original ideas, like all things film everything can change at any point. We have played around with the timeline changing some elements to flash backs/forwards. This makes for a more intriguing film and offers better pace overall.

I’ll be starting on the sound next week and Clarky on the music the week after. We should be seeing the first tests from the Atrium students this week and they will be getting their grades. After that we will be setting to getting all the CG elements and matt paintings made.

We’re making our way to the month end totals and I think this next week will be a good one as we should be launching the new embroidered t-shirt designs. I’m hoping to get a call from the printers tomorrow to pick up the last of the screen printed designs so I can get them posted this weekend.

The new design is the Casimir Effect logo design is first, I’ll be getting that on to the store this weekend. I’m also looking at getting some new stuff on to the Casimir Effect Café Press store and Alice’s Leather Survival gear on eBay.

Production Stills Day 7

Now for this week’s installment of the film’s production stills, this is the first day of the second week of filming, and the second to last day of filming in the Coal Exchange.

Well I’m rendering Scene 15 now, it’s taking 2 hours for a minute of footage and my PC is no slouch. Once it’s done, it’ll be time to get it to a private part of Youtube until after Chicago TARDIS. Then once it has screened there we will activate it so you can all see it. BTW it looks fantastic and the sound and atmos for the scene is spot on, no music yet though.

The Edit

It’s been a long road I have one of the two versions of the edit, I’ll be locking one of them tomorrow and then getting it out to the right people. The reason this has been taking so long is a long story but I’ll tell it anyway. We wanted to make the beginning of the film faster, so we moved one of the scenes to a flash back. This worked so well, we went back to the drawing board on most of the edit, and reworked most of the first part of the film to add more suspense and pace. From what I have seen of the new edit it looks good, however tomorrow is crunch time and I have to pick one of them.

Day Six

I missed the mid week post for the Production Stills, so I’m doing it now. Here are the shots from day six, showing some more humorous moments from the cast and crew.

The final order of the screen printed gear is simmering nicely I’m hoping to pick it up next week and get all the outstanding orders out to everyone. This means I can start looking at new embroidery designs, I have just reconfirmed I can do much lower minimum orders with these so I can get orders out on a weekly bases rather than having to wait for 10 orders to come in. This is great news as I don’t have to worry about the printers making delays and I can even watch the t-shirts being stitched.

Also I can start looking at other items to embroider, as long as it is soft material it can have a design stitched to it. This means Bear T-Shirts for those who want them; however such items would be a little more expensive as I would have to find a source for the items.  I’m also looking into messenger bags and patches.

The New Designs

Here are the three designs I’m looking at, all three will be released eventually however I want to stagger the release of the designs.  However which do we release first? So this is where you guys come in, I’m putting a pole together (see below) to see what people want first. As were still aiming to hit our funding totals please vote on the design you want the most and would like to buy in the next month or so. That way it helps us and you can get some Christmas presents on time.

Anyway the three designs are the Casimir Effect Logo, the CJS logo and the Cravendish Hawking 2044 university logo (Bob’s graduation year).

N.B.: For your order to get to you before Christmas get them in as early as you can. A rough guide order for the UK will need to be placed before 19th of December and the rest of the world before the 14th of December, this allows stitching time, and give me a chance to run to the post office.

As it’s been a free listings weekend on eBay I have been going nuts getting as much stuff up there as I can. All proceeds go to helping Casimir Effect through Post Production, I have raided my shelves and started listing all the books I have spare, read or don’t want any more.

I have listed a few geek items such as my much loved Laserdisc player and the laserdiscs to go with it. This would look cool in any geek collection; there are even the original three Star Wars films.

There are more than enough books to keep even the dedicated reader busy for… oh… let’s say a week.  Have a look at our eBay auctions and see if there is anything you fancy.

For the filmmakers out there I have listed the spare rolls of gels so you can grab a bargain if you’re in need.

I may have mentioned before that I planned on doing personalised CJS ID badges. Well if you go to the store you can grab one of these. Remember to e-mail through a picture and the details you want on the card.

These are great for Cosplay, or something different for that special someone or friend. Each ID badge is custom printed and laminated in the same way we made the badges for the film.

To go with this we are doing a limited run of Replica Dr. Robert Cameron ID Badges. These will be available until the end of the year. So if you want to grab a Replica to complete your GDL collection now’s the chance. We also have a couple of LAB coats left on eBay so you can grab one of these to and start a costume.

We are selling a full set of prints in one auction so this is a chance to grab the last full set available for sale this is set No. 14. Set No. 15 will be given away as part of a competition.

Edit

We’re looking to have the edit locked by the end of the next week, then it’s over to Clarky for the music, and I’m going to start digging into getting all the dialogue and sound sorted. I’m tuning Gareth’s voice trying to get that warm and sweet vocal tone you normally get in film and TV. It’s a lot harder than you think, just to get it to sound right and keep all the detail and tone of a person’s voice.

Cancer Research

As mentioned in a previous post we’re helping promote awareness for Cancer Research. Joanna Davies has a just giving page she has put together for a Kiss-a-thon she is doing, all money goes to Cancer Research.

On the same note Monique one of the Fans and Supporters of Casimir Effect has been recently diagnosed with Cancer, and were trying to think of something special we can do for her. Any ideas are welcome.  Other than Gareth and related project I’m not 100% what takes Monique’s fancy however if you know her send her our love and poke us if you can think of something for us to send her.

The Novella

Just to let you know the Novella is out there the printed versions from Café Press should have been arriving this week. It would be cool to have some pictures of you with the book. I have one here from @z_cochrane, looking all dark and mysterious behind the book.

The good news is we will be doing a panel at Chicago TARDIS, on the Saturday morning. The bad news is we won’t be there in person. We’re doing a live chat via the internet, so you can hopefully hear us and if we are lucky we can get video going to.  I’m looking into exclusive stills for the event and as an extra special bonus I’m working hard to get a scene finished and some polish added to show at the end of the talk.

So if you want to see something cool come to Chicago TARDIS and be up on the Saturday morning for the talk, and to get you going it’s a touching scene where Bob and Alfred first start to bond and it ends at a nice cliff-hanger.

eBay & Store

All the apparel has gone from the store other than items we have in stock. In a few weeks I’ll put up the first design from the embroidered range. These items require smaller orders so we can ship a lot faster. All current orders are with the printers, and fingers crossed will be ready in a week or so, as I want to get these out to everyone before we start on the new designs. Let’s hope we have better luck with these new ones.

We still have plenty of items on eBay, we’re working on Alice’s costumes at the moment. Many of these have been custom made for the film so are wholly unique, and extremely well made, thanks to our excellent costume department.
